Túneles
Modan, Rutu
When a great antiquities collector is forced to donate his collection to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Nili Broshi, the shrewd and dynamic protagonist of Tunnels, sees before her the last chance to reclaim the legacy of her archaeologist father and conclude an excavation begun decades ago. However, things are not so easy: what she is looking for, a remnant of biblical Israel, the object of scientific and religious myths, is found in the subsoil of the area claimed by Palestine, beyond the separation wall. The protagonist then embarks on an illegal excavation with a team as disparate as it is crazy: a religious nationalist and his gang of young extremists, his traitorous brother, his mobile-addicted son, and his Palestinian friend from youth, now a smuggler of archaeological pieces. As Nili's father sinks deeper and deeper into senile dementia, the various factions battle to be the first to discover and claim the Ark of the Covenant. Thus, the characters become entangled in deceit and absurd espionage of each other, moved by greed and interest in finding the Ark, but also by prejudices built in a society where war and enmity have been normalized.
