Tres mujeres en Haití

Seghers, Anna

First published in German in 1980, it is the last work of the great German writer Anna Seghers. The three stories in the triptych refer to women caught up in historical events throughout almost five hundred years of Haitian history, beginning with the time of Christopher Columbus's exploratory voyages to the New World and ending in the 1970s with the repressive measures of the diet of Bébé Doc Duvalier. These three portraits make up an essential work of testimony, demonstrating Seghers' perennial concern, as a revolutionary writer, to give voice to the marginalized.
