Transicions
el diari d'Anne Marbot
Durand, Élodie
The words of the psychologist who is seeing Alex shock Anne. Anne had not realized anything... Within our society, do we have freedom to be? What is the reality of the variety of genres? Anne rebels, fights, finds ways to question herself and build another look. Transitions. Anne Marbot's Diary is a graphic novel based on the diary of a real mother, whose story runs parallel to that of her son and her transidentity. Is it then a comic solely about transitions? Of course not. This graphic novel by Élodie Durand is above all about communication and learning. Children are independent beings, people with dreams, wishes and ideas of their own. However, we are used to creating expectations for them that often do not come close to who they really are. Adolescence is usually a very complicated time precisely because of that, minors full of hormones with their own ideas to explore and strong feelings of not fitting in. In front of them, adults who in many cases do not remember that complicated stage and who have the difficult task of accompanying them and trying to guide them, and what always happens? The conflict, if there is a lack of communication. What if, on top of that, the labels of the binary world we live in don't match who we really are? What if the gender label that is assigned to us at birth does agree with us, but the affective-sexual attraction that we feel with respect to the one that is presupposed to us does not? What if we don't understand any of the words and terms in this paragraph?
