Tornarà a ser rica i plena
una història (im)pertinent de Catalunya
Vila, Maria
Please, let's be clear for once: let's debunk the folkloric clichés about our land. We have not always been people of peace or winners (rather the opposite, or just people who like to be right). But what we are is a people that moves forward in history -sometimes too much and everything-, a kind of nation state before the nation state existed, and all this cannot be understood without the crucial role of the language in which we think. This book tries to explain in a concise and blunt way how Catalonia has become what it is now. A story of medieval queens who cut cod, traumatized kings who end up turning Catalonia into a Mediterranean empire, Bourbon repressors and, above all, the will to resist of a country marked by the tension between the inability to free itself from Spain and the State's lack of strength to assimilate it.
