Tolstói ha muerto

Pozner, Vladimir

On the night of October 27-28, 1910, eighty-two-year-old Tolstoy leaves his wife and children and leaves incognito in a second-class train carriage. Unfortunately, an illness will force the giant of Russian letters to stop at the small station of Astapovo, a tiny town lost in the immense Russian empire that in a few hours will become the center of the world. Under the watchful eye of the police forces (worried that the death of the "friend of the people" could be a pretext for disorder) and the "maternal" gaze of the Orthodox Church (which does not lose hope of seeing the return of the great excommunicated her), Astapovo will be visited by journalists, photographers and cameramen, as well as friends, disciples and relatives of Tolstoy. For six days -six days that keep the world on edge- the press will reveal the smallest details of the story: for the first time a private event becomes a public event.
