Teatro

Encina, Juan del

Volume 19 of the BCRAE brings together the entire Encino theater, made up of the eight eclogues included in the Cancionero of 1496 and the six pieces composed from that date on. Encina's work summarizes and elevates to excellence the medieval dramatic tradition, in which he grafts the loving perspectives typical of song lyrics and sentimental fictions, in accordance with the palatial taste of the time and refined with certain mythological airs during his Italian period. . Nobody disputes the throne of the beginnings of our scene, even if posterity forgot it and had to wait for the era of the avant-garde, in the heat of his claim as a musician, to captivate with the same literary weapons of his beginnings: a studied primitivism that manages, under pastoral disguise, to penetrate deeply into consciences. To establish the critical text of this edition, all ancient testimonies have been consulted, some of them preserved in unique copies.
