After spending eighteen years as a captive of the Turks, Jerónimo de Pasamonte, a veteran of Lepanto, arrives in Madrid in search of a bookseller to publish his memoirs. That same night, he listens to a student read in an inn the chapter of a book in which he is spoken of as a common thief. The work is titled El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha, by a certain Miguel de Cervantes. From that moment on, Pasamonte will divide his time between trying to collect a promissory note that he has won at cards in the gambling den in the basement of Francisco de Robles' bookstore, getting money to survive in Madrid, and finding out who this guy is. Cervantes. When reading Don Quixote in its entirety, he finds typos and some writing errors, such as the one related to the disappearance of Sancho Panza's donkey.
