Soy un gato

Soseki, Natsume

Adopted from the street by Professor Kushami in Tokyo, the feline narrator of "I am a cat" serves as Natsume Soseki to make a hilarious portrait of the human being and a Japanese society in full change during the modernizing Meiji era. While, with great pride, the cat is often outraged by the way it is treated and quickly judges humans as strange and fickle beasts, it does not escape its penetrating gaze nor does Kushami's own family with his wife, his three daughters and O-San, the maid, nor the numerous characters, who are more cartoonish, who parade through the house, such as Meitei, the fanciful and pedantic esthete student, Kangetsu, the eccentric PhD student, and many other visitors that make the novel a picture that is both festive and fierce.
