In the middle of the 14th century, an outbreak of plague was declared in the city of Girona and a quarantine was declared for the residents. Faced with the impassivity of the city's rulers, it is Madonna Francesca who takes command of the fight against the pandemic and improvises a field hospital to care for the sick. Looking for a desperate remedy, Francesca goes out at night accompanied by Tarlà, to look for Majoma, who has a good reputation as a healer. Tarlà and Majoma, in love with each other, make a common front to heal the sick; they use the best antidote, love.
