Somos un cuerpo herido
Hipatia y Catalina de Alejandría
Rossetti, Ana
Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Hypatia of Alexandria were two marvels of wisdom, courage and lucidity, who challenged the established order by wielding their conviction that safeguarding reason, freedom and justice is necessary for any civilization to be worthy of being called that. The first is an emblem of faith and virtue; the second, of scientific and philosophical erudition. Both figures are one in the Christian and pagan traditions, and share the same fateful fate: they were murdered because of religious intolerance. In an exciting and very personal journey, Ana Rossetti reflects on the vocations and principles of these two women, and interweaves her experiences with the historical development of the first great cosmopolitan city and the decline of its splendor. The author abounds in the intertwinings of the sociopolitical scene of the time and in its most relevant characters, thus providing a revealing perspective, of deep spiritual significance, that allows us to better understand the drift of the famous Alexandrians towards their tragic end. We Are a Wounded Body is a broad and rigorous essay, as well as vindictive, with which the author confirms, once again, her formidable capacity to intertwine erudition and narrative.
