¿Somos nuestro cerebro?
la construcción del sujeto cerebral
Vidal, Fernando (1957- )
Ortega, Francisco (1967- )
What exactly are we saying, and what mechanisms are at work, when we say that "we are our brain"? Since the 1990s, the humanities and social sciences have been the scene of a "brain turn" that materialized in the birth of disciplines such as neuroeducation, neuroanthropology and neuroesthetics. Despite its apparent novelty, the recent fashion for the "neuro" is the result of a long cultural process that has placed the brain at the center of the imaginaries that have shaped modern subjectivity. But to what extent do the latest manifestations of neurosciences suppose, as they claim, the confirmation of this assumption? Couldn't they really be just one more expression of this same cultural substrate? Fernando Vidal and Francisco Ortega trace in "Are we our brain?" the genealogy of neurocentric ideology, as well as a critical exploration of its internal logic, its present and past effects and its main fault lines.
