Soc fill dels evuzok
la vida d'un antropòleg al Camerun
Mallart i Guimerà, Lluís
Lluís Mallart went on a mission to Cameroon to convert Africans to Christianity. But it was the Africans, with whom he lived for eight years, who made him an anthropologist. Lluís Mallart's relationship with the evuzok was so close that they called him "son of the evuzok". Mallart narrates in this book an extraordinary experience and explains how they are and what the evuzok do, installed in the clearings of the Cameroonian jungle. He lives from within the collective rites, parties, and problems of the evuzok as an accepted neighbor. Mallart conveys the emotion of discovering the cultural background and social forms of a people that for us is exotic, but in which we see unsuspected evidence of the shared human condition. I am the son of the evuzok is a witness who impresses both by the rigor of his observation and by his human beat.
