Sobrevivir a la derrota
historia del sindicalismo en España, 1975-2004
Wilhelmi, Gonzalo
The history of the unions during the transition and the governments of Felipe González and José María Aznar is the history of industrial reconversion, socialist modernization, the development of the welfare state, integration into the European Union, neoliberal economic policies, labor deregulation and chronic inability to resolve unemployment. It is also the history of our country from a different perspective, that of the people who make it possible through their work, in companies in exchange for a salary and in the family environment caring without remuneration. This book addresses the lights and shadows of trade unions, with special attention to their decisive role in the fight against racism and for the integration of immigrants into the working class, in mobilizations against the war and in solidarity strikes with the unemployed, precarious and retired. It also analyzes the darker side of corruption, the difficulties in advancing equality between men and women, discriminatory practices against the weakest groups, and powerlessness in the face of realities such as workplace accidents or the extension of overtime. The history of trade unions in Spain is a history of organization, mobilization and negotiation, of fraternity and division, of overwhelming victories and sad defeats. A story that shapes us and challenges us.
