Sobre la muerte de un perro

Grenier, Jean

After the death of his beloved dog Taïaut, the philosopher Jean Grenier consecrated the animal that for years lived with him in this visionary and beautiful treatise with an intimate and whimsical cut, "broken and panting like the beating of the heart", with the purpose of "providing a second life" to that concrete being, with his peculiar character, his irreducible freedom and his fellowship. Writing it down was a way of overcoming grief; but also an opportunity to think beyond humanism. With a restrained aphoristic style impregnated with poetry, the ninety short texts that make up this beautiful elegy constitute a heartfelt reflection on the pain of death, the joy of being alive, the gratuity of love and the complex beauty of nature (those few themes timeless) from a broader sense: the familiarity between us animals.
