A bitch accompanying two hunters discovers a corpse on the mound. It is the corpse of a missing woman, which forces the singular inspector Paiana to focus on the case. Soon some suspects appear. But in this novel, contrary to what usually happens in this type of story, murder does not invade everything, but is inserted into the usual and daily work of officials. The cops keep talking about their stuff, joking while waiting for the judge to arrive and the forensic inspector exchanging recipes with the coroner while they examine the corpse. Because, as one of the characters says, the dead man has stopped, but life goes on.
