Rule number one, the trench provides. Rule number two, never, never step out of the trenches. Rule number three, the trench never ends. Breaking the rules means waking up the snowman, death personified. Milli and Mae Mae's father did it, now he is dead and the two sisters are forced to continue their escape alone. Leaving the safety of their home behind, the girls are taken in by a secret society of former trench dwellers, who join them in the fight against the snowman. However, the help will not be free and Milli will have to make a decision that could have fatal consequences for Mae Mae.
