Sito Presidente
XXVI Premio Literario Café Bretón, 2020
Luis Manero, Felipe de
In the second half of the eighties, the modest soccer team Juventud Cambados starred in a surprising story of sporting successes, luxuries and excesses at the hands of the smuggler and drug trafficker José Ramón Prado Bugallo (Cambados, 1955), alias Sito Miñanco. Sito played in his youth in the team of his town and years later he acceded to the presidency with the approval of his uncle. The team, which was active in regional categories in 1986, chained a series of brilliant triumphs that made it touch the promotion to the second division A. As the meteoric rise of the team develops, dilemmas arise: if the footballers were aware of the origin of his earnings, can his behavior be reproached? What quota of responsibility do politicians, journalists and different public officials have that knew Miñanco's trade and allowed him to do it? Was the excessive veneration of Cambados residents for the drug trafficker based on something other than mere material interest? These and other questions that are difficult to answer are happening as the reader sees how a magnificent story is played with the universe of football as a backdrop.
