On the first day of university, Albert meets Eirin. They had not seen each other before but will never be separated again. After thirty-seven years together, while Eirin is at a congress in Melbourne, Albert leaves the doctor's office with devastating news. How to face something like that? To search for an answer, he decides to take refuge in the Story House, the cabin they have on the shores of the Glitretjern lagoon. There, completely isolated, he will give himself twenty-four hours to review his life, to write everything, including what he has kept secret until that April 23, 2009 ... And just when he is sure that before him only darkness opens - as on those nights when he rowed to the center of the lake to search the abyss, Albert will understand that in all darkness, even the deepest, there is always a place for light.
