Shirley

Robert Moore "important man, man of action", owner of a textile factory shaken by the economic effects of the Napoleonic wars and by the fear of the workers to the Industrial Revolution, is torn between the quiet love of his cousin Caroline, an orphan in constant vigil and forced austerity, and the passionate admiration of Shirley, an independent and enthusiastic heiress. The rivalry in love does not prevent the affection and solidarity between the two women, since both know that, compared to men, there is more that unites them than what separates them.
