His last salute is a collection of stories that Conan Doyle attributed to the careful compilation of Dr. Watson, who with this work offers the accounts of the cases solved by Sherlock Holmes on the occasion of the war with Germany, when the famous detective made himself available to the government abandoned his voluntary retirement on a Downs farm, five miles from Eastbourne. Aware of the readers' appreciation for the famous detective, Watson confirms with this work that despite his silence, Holmes is still alive and in good health, thus avoiding the reaction that his disappearance provoked with the publication of "The Final Problem".
