Sense porc
l'alimentació en les identitats culturals de jueus i moriscos i en la seua persecució per la Inquisició de València
XXIII Premi Bernat Capó
Toldrà, Albert
Food, as a cultural fact, can cause conflicts, we know that. And historically, in our country, with the coexistence between Christians, Jews and Muslims, there were problems. It is a fact that the majority of accusations in the Inquisition of Valencia against Jews and Moors come, much more than strictly religious facts, from food and drink: what they eat, what they don't eat, how they do it, what rituals they observe or ignore, when they fast and when they don't... In "Sense porc" this type of conflict is described and explained, with some central ideas: the blaming of the victim, who persists in maintaining his different identity, the role vital role of women in the generational transmission of cultural traditions in the domestic sphere, and above all, the thesis that a cultural habit such as food has more of an identity, specific to a social group, than a religious one.
