Kate Marshall's detective agency takes off when she and her partner, Tristan Harper, get their first big case. Twelve years ago, journalist Joanna Duncan vanished without a trace after uncovering a political scandal. Public opinion and the police have turned the page, to this day no one knows where Joanna is, but her mother does not want to give up. Just like the police, Kate and Tristan investigate the locations and suspects associated with Joanna, but this time, the reporter's personal effects become the key to linking her case to other disappearances from the time... and of the present. Soon, the detectives realize that Joanna may have stumbled upon something much more sinister than she bargained for: the identity of a serial killer hiding in plain sight.
