Salustio

Salustio

Syme, Ronald

Sallust's reputation among the Romans was always enormous. With only two historical works and an incomplete project, he created his own style with an extraordinary impact on Latin literature. However, the many facets of him do not allow the portrait of him to be simple. He was a prominent Roman politician defending the cause of Julius Caesar; he was a moralist critical of republican society, and he was also a subtle and meticulous artist who renewed the tradition of an entire genre. Ronald Syme dedicated this historical and literary essay to Salustio, which marked a before and after for him. The publication of this book, unpublished to date in Spanish, is quite an event in the world of classical studies.
