Salud Global
la nueva estrategia frente a la amenaza medioambiental
López-Goñi, Ignacio
Pérez Ramírez, Elisa
Orive, Gorka
Currently, about 75 percent of new threats to our health come from the animal world. Climate change favors the exchange of pathogenic microorganisms (viruses and bacteria) between humans and animals, with which we share nearly three hundred diseases. There is no reason to think that emerging or re-emerging infections will decrease in the future, quite the contrary. Therefore, we need more than ever to address health challenges holistically by considering the human population and the planet as a unit. In this book, Ignacio López-Goñi, Elisa Pérez-Ramírez and Gorka Orive, three prestigious experts from different health disciplines, explain how everything is connected (human, animal and environmental health) and that in order to successfully face the great challenges that we are facing -future pandemics, resistance to antibiotics, new viruses, zoonoses...- applying a Global Health strategy (One Health) is urgent and essential.
