Rimas

Vega, Lope de
Sánchez Jiménez, Antonio (ed.)

Volume 49 of the BCRAE presents Lope's most important poetic bet of fullness, that of forty years: Rimas (1604), a Petrarchan songbook adapted to his own tastes, uses and needs, with which he wants to present himself as the first lyrical poet of the country, legitimate successor of Garcilaso. The collection exhibits a masterful mastery of verse and of the different subgenres of cultured lyric, from the sonnet to the eclogue, from the silva to the elegy, passing through the epistle or the epitaph, always with a background of lived truth, which situates the authorial voice at the center of the poetic enterprise. The edition that we present respects the integrity of the songbook and publishes it from the printing of 1604, in which the Rhymes took their final form. As an appendix, the famous new art of making comedies at this time is included, added in the 1609 edition of the Rhymes after these.
