Retrotopía
Bauman, Zygmunt
We long ago lost faith in the idea that people could achieve human happiness in an ideal future state. But, although we have lost faith in utopias, what has not died is the human aspiration that has made that type of image so captivating. In fact, this idea is resurfacing again as an image focused not on the future, but on the past: an abandoned and revived past that we could call retrotopia. Faithful to the utopian spirit, retrotopia is the desire to rectify the defects of the current human situation, although, in this case, resurrecting the failed and forgotten potentials of the past. It is the imagined aspects of that past - real or presumed - that today serve as reference points when it comes to charting the route to a better world.
