"It was in the midst of an apocalyptic storm, my face illuminated by the chiaroscuro of lightning, that I left the City of Beauty forever." Thus begins Miroslav's escape, an escape that becomes a search for the reasons that led this enigmatic Czech artist to leave his beloved Prague and take refuge as a vagabond in Venice. To the north of that uncertain future, the Polish Zbigniew meditates furiously on the Passion of Christ, embodied in his religious sculptures but also in the unforgivable rudeness that he distributes among his loved ones. And while, in Marbach am Neckar, a small town that collects the literary memory of the Germans, the archivist Jeremias and the doctoral student Sofía embark on a game of disguises and dangers. Flight. Search. Finding. Several lives (some fictitious, and which reappear after we met them in other works by Martín Gijón; others real, such as those of Heidegger or Celan), intersect in this novel that also leads us to wander through Paris, Berlin or Malaga, following the threads between minuscule existences and major events, and which also accommodates ironic reflection on our continent, in the form of a parable, or melancholy embodied in Eduardo, resistant to the Chilean dictatorship and whose utopian fervor resists frost postmodern.
