Many women and men seek fulfillment in love only to end up finding themselves defenseless against a third player who invites himself into the house and into their lives: the patriarchy. This book sheds light on an issue that has haunted feminists for decades and remains at the forefront of their concerns: heterosexual love. Encoded in our romantic comedies and images of the ideal partner, there is a form of female inferiority that suggests that women must choose between personal and romantic fulfillment. This social conditioning that we all suffer -the one that convinces men that they have the right to everything, while promoting self-sacrifice and total dedication in women- results in an imbalance of power that can culminate in physical and psychological violence. The attitudes we are all encouraged to adopt toward love - women overestimating men, while men refuse to allow them a central place in their lives - also pave the way for relationships that can only end badly, and, in the sexual front, maintain the prominence of masculine fantasies in the spaces of desire.
