Augsburg, 1939. The Melzer family faces dark times. World War II is looming on the horizon and it will change everyone's lives forever. The fabric factory is on the verge of bankruptcy and Paul once again has to make a tough decision, this time without his wife, Marie, who has lived with his son Leo in New York since 1935. The years of her absence have caused her deep sadness, although her love for Paul is stronger than ever.
