Rebelión en Asturias

Camus, Albert

Rebelión en Asturias recounts the workers' insurrection of 1934 and the implacable repression of the army sent by the Republic to contain it and that ended up watering the entire region with blood. A year after the uprising, from Algiers and only 22 years old, Albert Camus wrote this play as a tribute to the fighting spirit of the Asturian people and to the more than 1,500 people who were killed, most of them civilians. In the words of Romain Rolland, "since the Paris Commune nothing has been seen as beautiful as the revolutionary movement in Asturias."
