Quatre qüestions d'amor

Joan F. Mira collected in this volume four stories that have the mysterious force of love as their central theme and that all four are based on documented historical events. The diversity of eras, characters and tones offer a sufficiently rich perspective on love passions. There is, for example, the story of a violent feudal count, prosecuted for sodomy, narrated by the cultured abbess of a monastery in Castelló d'Empúries who is in love with him. There is the chronicle of a beautiful marble tomb in Valencia and its occupants when they were alive. There is also that of a soldier who, in 18th century Mallorca, ran away with a nun who had escaped from the convent and they both embarked in search of a new life. And finally, the story of young lovers from Barcelona, happily concluded in a church in Lisbon with a wedding so extravagant that it occupied many days of the Portuguese press in the 1950s.
