Psicología aplicada a la ayuda en situaciones de emergencia y catástrofe
lo que hemos aprendido del coronavirus
Fernández Millán, Juan Manuel
A book based on professional practice can never be finished. That is what happens with this manual, which began as a few brief notes back in 1997 and has gone through several extensions. Finally, there were so many new themes, experiences and content that it became necessary to reorganize it and create a new work. The aim of its author is that all professionals who are part of the different human teams that intervene in the field of emergencies / catastrophes (incidents with multiple victims) find in this work some recommendations that guide and facilitate their work. The organization of the manual is, as far as possible, temporary, starting with aspects to be applied before emergencies occur, moving on to the necessary or possible actions just after the event has occurred and ending with functions to be carried out in the long term. The work is not limited to individual intervention, but covers aspects related to the management and organization of the teams and organizations involved, containing a special section on psychological support for them. Communication during rescue, support for surviving family members, action against possible suicides, management of communication to the population, evacuation of public places, psychological disorders that are often linked to the traumatic experience, etc. are discussed. All from a practical perspective, without using more content than necessary and sprinkling with news published in the press and experiences that illustrate and justify the proposed recommendations.
