Proust y otros estudios literarios

Proust and other literary studies brings together the texts -articles, prologues, lectures, speeches- in which Paul Valéry (1871-1945) dealt with poets and novelists, playwrights and "men of letters", literary motifs, works and topics. As in the other volumes of the author published so far in The Raft of the Medusa, the edition of Oeuvres I (Bibliothèque de la Pléiade) is followed, established and annotated by Jean Hytier. Valéry dealt with very different authors and works, including the short but luminous writing on Marcel Proust, as well as the collection dedicated to Stéphane Mallarmé, which alone constitute a true volume and offer a rigorous and already classic analysis of the poet. It is also fair to mention the studies devoted to Villon, the poetry of Saint John of the Cross, Goethe and Voltaire, and there is no doubt that the reader will find fundamental contributions in "minor" texts at first sight, such as those in which Valéry takes care of Huysmans, Verlaine or Verhaeren.
