On May 28, 1959, the United States launched its last rocket into space. His passengers were a macaque named Able and a saimiri named Baker. On November 3, 1957, less than two years earlier, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 2 with the dog Laika on board. The USSR reported that Laika did not reach orbit. The United States reported that Able and Baker died as soon as they reached space. As a consequence, the space races of both world powers were abandoned. However, what really happened is that the animals did not die... they were taken away. And now they are going home.
