Primavera silenciosa

Carson, Rachel L.

Silent Spring (1962), by the American marine biologist and zoologist Rachel Louise Carson (1907-1964), is a book that must be read as it addresses one of the most serious problems of the 20th century: the pollution suffered by the Earth. . Using transparent language, the rigor of the best scientific analysis and shocking examples, Carson denounced the harmful effects that the massive use of chemical products such as pesticides, DDT in particular, had on nature. It is, therefore, a science book that goes beyond the scientific universe to enter the turbulent world of "the social". His importance was such that today he is considered one of the main responsible for the appearance of environmental movements in favor of nature conservation. In fact, Silent Spring achieved what few scientific texts achieve: illuminate our knowledge of processes that take place in nature and arouse interest in society both for the science that is necessary to understand what happens on our planet, and for the present and future situation of life that exists in it.
