Precursores de América

Precursores de América

los grandes poetas del continente americano

VV.AA.

On horseback between the 19th and 20th centuries, poets appeared on the American continent who became independent from the poetic tradition of their metropolis, whether it was Spain or England. They began to write avant-garde verses, never seen before, which over the years came to have a decisive influence on the poets of their cultures of origin. Not all the countries of America had these pioneering figures who, at the same time that they broke with a tradition of classical poetry, established an innovative national tradition. Precursors of America offers an x-ray of this moment of change through five extraordinary poets from different geographical areas of the continent, who overflowed the channels of the trends imported from Europe and who still continue to influence poetry today: Walt Whitman for North America, José Martí for the Caribbean, Rubén Darío for Central America, Gabriela Mistral for the Southern Cone and César Vallejo for the Andean zone. This anthology offers a wide sample of each of them, inescapable authors for all poetry readers.
