Política y verdad en el Leviatán de Thomas Hobbes

Política y verdad en el Leviatán de Thomas Hobbes

Vallespín Oña, Fernando

His diagnosis of man finds the main problem in institutionalizing human coexistence in the subjectivity of human affections, in the "language of passions." The combination between the disintegrating passionate impulses and the inconsistency of the words thus offers the ideal fuel to ignite the fire of confrontation and the men to allow themselves to be carried away by false opinions induced in them by the different factions in struggle. This "verbal chaos", stimulated by political and religious groups, but also by the very influence of Greco-Roman moral and political philosophy, would lead to the actual or potential destabilization of coexistence. The political conflict is revealed as well as a power struggle where the main weapons are words, concepts and distinctions; or, if you like, a "war of representations" where each side manipulates reality to more convincingly fit their specific political interests.
