Poemas
Catulo, Cayo Valerio
In the midst of a historical period of profound transformation in the 1st century B.C. C., Roman literature saw how the figure of Cayo Valerio Catullus (87-h. 55 BC) emerged. His brief but decisive work blew up the foundations of the old poetry that was written in Rome and marked the path that the new Latin lyrics would have to travel. With only 116 preserved poems, Catullus displays an enormous variety of resources that underpin a deep process of innovation of merit and content. In addition, from our contemporary perspective, this constant search for thematic originality, added to expressiveness and the powerful subjective presence of the poetic self, make Catullus an author extraordinarily close to modern sensibility.
