On the planet Eltanin, a colony of Terrans from the Planetary League is on the verge of extinction due to the harsh living conditions on the planet and an unexpected threat. They have no other neighbors than the primitive nomads, who, although they fear the terrestrials, settle in the vicinity of the colony during the cruel winters that last fifteen years. In the coming winter, a hitherto unknown risk looms over all of them. The barbarian hordes from the north, the criminal wraiths of the snow, are closing in on the colony, and if the earthlings do not unite with the nomads, overcoming six centuries of mistrust, this may be the last winter for all of them.
