Santiago, a doctor in charge of the Gregorio Marañón emergency service, is enjoying a well-deserved vacation after the stress of the first wave of the Covid pandemic. He travels with his wife and his son to Breda, a small town where he practiced medicine for the first time twenty years ago, and was recently graduated. When a few days later he turns up dead, his widow hires Ricardo Cupido, the detective who is already an old acquaintance of Eugenio Fuentes's readers, to help him solve the case. Cupido, who failed to solve the last case in charge (the traffic accident in which a seven-month-pregnant woman died on the Breda road), is deeply involved in this new one, in which he will have to investigate whether the reasons of this murder are in the present or in the past that returns.
