Paciente cero
el relato en primera persona del primer periodista español contagiado por coronavirus
Mateu, Kike
On February 19, 2020, the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 takes place in Milan, in which Atalanta and Valencia face off. A night that experts and authorities have pointed to as a biological bomb in the spread of Covid-19 in Italy and Spain. Unknowingly, sports journalist Kike Mateu was part of this spread, who on his return became the first person to be infected with coronavirus in Valencia: patient zero. During the harsh weeks of isolation in the hospital, he only kept in touch with the outside world through social media and the media. Kike was the first public testimony in Spain from within the disease, and he realized that his experience as an infected person could be of help to others, since he had experienced the evolution of the virus in the first person. For this reason, and in order to reassure and resolve doubts, he decided to share his experiences in this book: the moment of the infection, the first days at home, the isolation in the hospital, the involvement of the doctors and nurses who became his second family, the contagions that were confirmed around him and the feeling of guilt derived from it, the parallel expansion of the pandemic in Spain, all the support received and, of course, the disease itself and its effects.
