Orgullo
la lucha por la igualdad del movimiento LGTBI+
Todd, Matthew
In June 1969, the police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York. Then was born the movement that fought for equal rights for the LGTBI community. Pride tells what happened that night, and the riots that occurred in the following days and nights, as well as the consequent birth of LGBTI activism and the fifty years after that in which ordinary people and activists dedicated their lives to change the position that society had with respect to our community. Pride reflects the key moments in the fight for equality of the LGTBI community, from the triumphs of the first activists to the approval of laws against discrimination, reflecting the gradual increase in the acceptance of the LGTBI community in the world as that of politics, sports, culture or the media. Little-known images and documents referring to some of those key moments of the movement have been included, as well as personal testimonies of fundamental figures addressing different aspects. From Maureen Duffy remembering the beginnings of the movement to Asifa Lahore reflecting on religion. Jake Shears talks about music, Will Young about mental problems and Paris Lees about the public image of transsexuals. Pride is a different celebration of LGTBI culture, but also a review of the challenges we face as a community. It also aims to record that the equality of rights that many of us enjoy is the result of the passion and perseverance of which we are part of this mass social movement.
