The Bennets -a couple with five daughters of marriageable age- can afford to live comfortably because the father, a cultured and sly man, is the usufructuary of the family house and the surrounding estates. But, even so, Mrs. Bennet suffers for the future that awaits her daughters when the husband is gone -if not that by then they are all well married-, because then the house will end up in the hands of their closest relative , Mr. Collins. Their luck suddenly changes when they learn that Netherfield, a large estate in the countryside, has been bought by Mr. Bingley, a rich and unmarried young man, whom Mrs. Bennet is confident will soon find a wife. After a few days, as befits well-mannered neighbors, the pleasant Charles Bingley shows up at the Bennets accompanied by his sister Caroline and his good friend Fitzwilliam Darcy, who is even richer than Bingley... but much more reserved. Over the next few months, there will be visits, dinners and even a grand ball at Netherfield where the five Bennet daughters will have a chance to dazzle everyone. The Bingleys will befriend Jane, the beautiful and discreet eldest daughter. On the other hand, Elizabeth, the father's second and favorite because of her sharp intelligence, runs into Mr. Darcy from the first moment: her prejudices about the rich owner, as well as his proud temperament, they will make even the most inconsequential conversation between the two very complicated.
