One Piece, 1
Oda, Eiichiro
It is the era of the great pirates. With their flags fluttering in the wind, they fight each other in order to reach the great treasure One Piece, the legacy of the legendary pirate king Gold Roger. This great pirate is the object of admiration for a boy named Luffy, who has befriended Shanks the Red-Haired, captain of a pirate gang who often moors the ship at the pier in his village. One fine day, Luffy eats a demonic fruit, loot that Shanks' gang had obtained, and his body acquires the properties of elastic rubber. In exchange, he loses the ability to float in water, and thus to swim. While the gang is outside the village, Luffy provokes some mountain bandits whose leader kidnaps him and throws him into the sea. As he struggles to keep from sinking, a sea beast comes to swallow him... but Shanks swims in and saves him! Luffy survives, but in return the pirate loses his left arm. 10 years after saying goodbye to Shanks and his family, with the straw hat that the Redhead lent him as a distinctive mark, Luffy goes to sea alone. He begins his journey with the goal of becoming the king of the pirates!
