Odisea 2050

la economía mundial del siglo XXI

Requeijo, Jaime

Odysseus, also called Ulysses, took twenty years, according to Homer's account, to return to Ithaca, after the Trojan War, because the obstacles he had to overcome were enormous. This book is also about a long journey and the need to overcome a series of formidable obstacles. The journey is that of the world economy until the middle of this century, an economy that will undergo, in accordance with current trends, major transformations, since, in a much more populated world, the current dominance of the Atlantic region will have given step to a multipolar economy, with an accentuated presence of the Asian region. But it will be necessary to face obstacles such as the struggle for energy, the instability that can derive from the current asymmetry between saving and debtor countries, the intense migratory flows and the aging of the world population. From this global perspective, the book ends with an appreciation of the problems that the Spanish economy will have to solve in order to positively join this changing universe. This new edition includes a chapter dedicated to the pandemic unleashed by COVID-19 and its devastating effects, in the short term, on the world economy.
