It's Christmas night, and Henry wanders the halls of a huge apartment on New York's Upper West Side, blending in with the other guests at a party that seems to go on forever. Suddenly, a voice surprises him: "I'm Clara", without further ado, announces a beautiful young woman, and these two words, so simple and firm, are enough to intrigue Henry. Later, a shared cigarette on the terrace and a few more phrases make them accomplices in a unique love story. We, from the pages of the book, accompany Henry in the days that follow the party, throughout the eight white nights that separate Christmas from the New Year's celebration. There we are, privileged witnesses of the young man's doubts, of her solitary walks in search of Clara, of her bewilderment at suddenly seeing her, of her fear of commitment and her desire to surrender.
