After decades in oblivion, Manuel Chaves Nogales is today considered one of the best Spanish journalists and writers of the 20th century. His search for the truth above any ideology made him an uncomfortable voice in a divided Spain and in a Europe preyed upon by totalitarianism. Exiled in France and England since shortly after the outbreak of the civil war, there he would write such fundamental texts as In Blood and Fire or The Agony of France, before his premature death in 1944. This complete Work brings together for the first time in a single Five-volume edition of all the literary and journalistic writings signed by Chaves that are known to date, arranged chronologically, starting from its beginnings in the Seville newspapers to its latest collaborations from London for different international media. It includes his nine books: The city, Wonderful stories and exemplary biographies, Around Europe by plane, The Bolshevik in love, What is left of the Empire of the Tsars, The teacher Juan Martínez who was there, Juan Belmonte, bullfighter, Blood and Fire and The Agony of France, as well as well-known series such as his chronicles of Nazi Germany or the stories of the defense of Madrid. This edition also provides sixty-eight texts never before published in volume. A fundamental work for the reconstruction of a crucial period in our history, of which Chaves was an invaluable witness.
