Nou(s) realisme(s)?

In the last twenty years, social, political, and economic conditions have changed greatly. After a period of prosperity -culturally marked by postmodernism and, in the theatrical field, post-drama- we have entered a stage of precariousness, fear and uncertainty. It is in this context that Bernd Stegemann publishes Praise of Realism. The book exposes the controversial thesis that postdramatic theater, both in its most formal and self-referential expressions and in those that seek the authenticity of the real, has ended up playing into the neoliberal system it sought to question. We need a "new realism" that can work on making the world visible, not encrypting it. The debate that has arisen as a result of this controversy has changed theatrical thought and theory in Germany far beyond what the starting conflict seems to point out.
