Negrito
XXII Premio de Novela Rural Diputación de Córdoba
Callís, Ernest
Carlos wants to run away from his family past and from a rural life that enslaves him and makes him feel that his existence has no value. Ester wants to flee the city and consolidate in the countryside the kind of family she has always wanted. They both cross each other on that back and forth path. Negrito, a tender, wise and luminous animal, a puppy too smart to be among his peers but not smart enough to understand the complications of humans, becomes the reference and inspiration for others to accept their destiny. The human curse of thinking that a place other than one's own will always be better. That somewhere else everything will be much easier, that things will go better for us, and that the dreams we long for do not depend on us but on the environment. That anxiety moves lives between the countryside and the city. Lives that, at the end of the road, discover that they would like to return to where they came from. It is the price of original sin: to want what one does not have, to aspire to more than one is. Only Negrito is free of him.
