Nadia Comaneci y la policía secreta
historias de la guerra fría
Olaru, Stejarel
Stejarel Olaru's new book is about one of the greatest athletes of all time, Nadia Comaneci, the first gymnast in the world to achieve the perfect score of 10! She achieved it during the Montreal Olympics in 1976. The Olympic, world and European medalist was born in 1961 in northeastern Romania and now lives in the United States. The author presents Nadia's beginnings in gymnastics, from her first major titles to the Montreal Olympics. Throughout the book, the network of informants created within the Romanian Olympic team, promoted by intelligence at the service of the Communist Party, is meticulously described. This network of informants revealed the abusive methods of the Karolyi coaching couple, as well as the serious conflicts between coaches and gymnasts, in particular between Nadia and Bela Karolyi. Even under these conditions, the "Goddess of Montreal" continued her exceptional career, culminating in her successful participation in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, despite the efforts of USSR-controlled referees to reduce her chances of get on the podium
